After talks between the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) failed on May 5, around 400 officers and employees of various banks under the banner of the UFBU protested the “ill motives” of the IBA and the Central Government in front of the SBI building in Urban Estate here on Thursday. The protesters demanded an increase in wages.
Convener, UFBU, Patiala, Rajiv Sirhindi, who is also the deputy general secretary of the SBI Officers’ Association, accused the IBA and Central Government of adopting a lackluster attitude towards their genuine demands.
He said the united forum of bank unions had decided to go on a 48-hour continuous strike on May 30. Sirhindi said, “We will observe the strike to oppose the delay on the IBA’s part in resolving the charter of demands. We will also protest the government’s casual approach towards the revision of wages of bank employees.”
